10:48 Rally «Blue Lakes 2009»: First loop - dust, duster, the dustest...

Saturday, 02 May 2009 01:00

img_9364And they did ask about dust at the press-conference yesterday... But the weather forecast promised wind. Though eventually there was no wind at all...

9:03. First starts Boris Zimin (numerous winner of the Russian Cup events). He's feeling comfortable - at least his vision is not disturbed by dust, and it neutralises disadvantage of cleaning the stage for others.
9:04. Starts Mikhail Lepekhov. He can see nothing but the wall of dust in front of him. 300 metres into the special stage - and Crash!Boom!Bang!... (those are the sounds, cause vision was prevented by the dust) - and his car stops at a junction and can't come off a beam. After losing more than 3 minutes, ...Mikhail restarts just ahead of Boris Gadasin, so from the moment on Boris sees nothing AT ALL! Unsurprisingly the master of gravel tracks can't show his true form, however on the next special stage G-Force Motorsport leader posts best time in the group of out-fashioned groupN cars and closely follows the leading pack of crews.

Just at the same place where Lepekhov went off the road, another driver Alexandr Kozharin crashed the back of his car. He managed to reach the service (with the rear right part of his car heavily damaged, including the suspension), but can he compete further? It will be decided only after scrutineers examine his car following the repair work.
